Privatizing Your Garden

Having a house at the corner of streets will cause some consequences. It usually faces both of streets. So, the house has “L” shape of its garden. All area of its garden faces directly to streets, so it creates public area around the house.

Usually, the owners are unwilling to do some activities on the “L” garden. They prefer to do their activities at the more personal place like backyard or living room. Usually, the front garden that has public characteristic is used to increase the beauty of their house only (passive garden).

There are some steps to change the condition of your public garden so the garden can be used as personal garden.

The first step is making garden land higher than the streets, thus it has the same elevation as house floor. This technique makes people at outside cannot see the activities in the garden because the elevation of it is about 6 feet from the street. People must walk through garden stairs to enter this garden. But, its stairs looks massive so it would better if you add plants beside the stairs.

Second is planting Swiss grass whole of garden area. Adding palm at some points of its area is also good idea to make your garden more natural. To make your garden more personalize, you can add hedge around it.

The last is appending a water pool near main entrance. You can apply water pool made from black and white stones that has stratified structure. The sound of its water makes you and your family feel more enjoy staying there.

Living Room - Wider Without Divider

A living room that has 20m² area is classified in medium-size. A living room in small house usually has no divider (wall) to other room, so it looks wider because it takes “imaginary space” from rooms around it.

The location of this living room can be at the front or back of the house. It is better to be located at the back because the living room will be beside backyard. The backyard can become fishpond or stoned garden with some plants.

The furniture on this living room should be simple and slim. You can put some furniture that can be moved easily, for example: a table that has wheels at it foots. It would better if the table has storage for collecting your DVD or magazine.

The furniture colors can be combined between neutral color (ex: brown or yellowish) and contrast color (ex: red, yellow or orange). For example you can combine a brown sofa with orange pillows.

A Tropical Living Room

A living room is used to do much activities and it should make anyone there feels comfortable. Thus, a living room should have cozy atmosphere, besides having interesting furniture and accessories. In other side, adding some green plants on living room can make anyone fells fresh.

Although this living room has two sofas and a table, a small garden near it makes tropical atmosphere here. A transparent ceiling at above its garden makes sunlight reaches this living room easily. The deviation of its light makes the situation fells warmer. It also makes the living room looks brighter without lamp light.

Almost colors of interior things are from natural color. A coffee table that has blocked pattern gives jungle impression. The brown sofas also give tropical feel.

This living room uses brown as main color because it can make calm condition. Its color matches to combine with different colors of furniture.
